Shellpol®
Carbomer for industrial, cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations
Ten grades, from pourable lotions to firm, clear gels, manufactured in our own plant in Gujarat. Every batch is tested against its specification and ships with a certificate of analysis, so the grade you approve is the grade you receive.
Working with carbomer
- Viscosity range
- 4,000 to 75,000 mPa·s at 0.5%, so you can pick the texture you need
- Activation
- Thickens once neutralised with TEA, NaOH or another base, with the best viscosity at about pH 5–9
- Use level
- Typically 0.1–1.0%; small amounts give large viscosity gains
- Salts
- Salts lower viscosity. The long-flow grades 941, 971 and 981 cope with them best
- Compatibility
- Works in water and water–alcohol systems; stabilises emulsions and suspends particles
- Packing and storage
- Moisture-proof bags and drums. Store cool and dry with the container closed

Typical values by grade. Select a grade for its full specification. Each batch’s certificate of analysis gives the tested results and the pharmacopoeia standard applied.

Applications
Industrial and household
Thickening and suspending in cleaners, detergents, coatings and other water-based industrial products.
Cosmetics and skincare
Clear gels, creams, lotions and serums, with textures from light and pourable to firm.
Personal hygiene
Hand sanitiser gels, oral care and other hygiene products.
Pharmaceuticals
Oral suspensions, topical gels and creams, ophthalmic and mucosal products, and controlled-release formulations.
